Nature is one of the best parts of the city of Tampere. Many people consider the landscapes breathtaking and if this is the first time you are visiting this city, it’s easy to notice why. The size of the city allows room for there to be plenty of nature, while still having the conveniences of a larger city. One can find many great parks, beaches, trails, and places meant specifically for viewing the beautiful nature Tampere has to offer. It’s also not uncommon to see rabbits, squirrels, and ducks in just about any part of this city, along with many other animals.

We put together a simple map and a route for others to see some of the best nature places Tampere has to offer. There is also plenty of advice on what to expect and what to bring with you on your trip. One can visit all of the places list here within a single day and we thought up two simple routes; one for biking and one for walking. If you would like to save your feet you can use the public transport system in Tampere, it is one of the best in Finland.

Here is to the link to the bus system journey planner where you should be able to easily find a bus route to your target destination.

To make your journey safe and comfortable, we recommend that you pack these items in your backpack:
Good shoes, lunch, something to drink, binoculars, backpack, money, a bus ticket, a compass, a map, a helmet, phone and spare charger, sunscreen, first aid kit, swimming gear and a first-aid kit.

If you decide to walk, you can use pedestrian paths to get around. Tampere has plenty of quality pedestrian paths and many stoplights and crosswalks to cross the roads safely.

If you are going by bike, you should be aware of a few things. In Finland you are not allowed to cycle on highways or pedestrian paths. Luckily there are good bicycle roads in Tampere! The roads meant for bicycles are marked with a blue sign that has a white bicycle on it. Otherwise, cycle on the right end of the street. Show the direction you're going to turn to by pointing with your arm.

Please keep in mind that these routes are suggestions! If you find something more interesting, it's fine to wander off from the route, or if you find the route too long and challenging, it's fine to cherry pick the locations you like. If you decide to take the routes as they are, don't feel too intimidated despite they are pretty long. They're meant to be walked or biked in peace, and you can stop along the route to eat or wander off.

Easy trail. The trail focuses on Tampere center and can be walked around.  The route is approximately 8km.

The advanced trail. The route can be walked, biked or you can take the bus. The route is approximately 18 km.
